Tomáš Šebek - Leadership for junior doctors

Consultant of general surgery, MeDitorial, Active participant, Doctors Without Borders missions

Tomas has completed his general medicine studies at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and started working as a general surgeon at the district hospital NH Hospital, where he also assumed the role of a press officer during the years of 2009 - 2011. In 2004, he founded a company and as an entrepreneur, he operates a unique medical website (for HCPs) and telemedicine project (for PTs) – the number one Czech website in the health category and further virtual hospital. In 2010, he joined the international organization Doctors Without Borders and went on his first mission in Haiti. In 2011 and 2012, he worked for the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Dublin as an orthopedic surgeon in the National Spinal Unit and also did his second mission in Haiti. In 2013, he started working in the surgical intensive care unit of the Hospital of St. Francis in Prague and went on his third Doctors Without Borders mission in Northern Afghanistan as a consultant of traumatology. In the spring of 2014, he was elected the secretary of the Austrian MSF Board as well as a permanent member of the Geneva Congress of Doctors Without Borders. You could listen to his regular program “U Lékaře" on the Czech Broadcast of BBC on Radio ZET during 2014 - 2016. He did his fourth mission in Afghanistan in the spring of 2015. Tomáš is a consultant of general surgery with almost 15 years of surgical experience. He is also an ATLS consultant under the American College of Surgeons. He currently specializes in laparoscopic procedures of the abdominal cavity and, as a war surgeon of Doctors Without Borders missions, treats abdominal, thorax and limb trauma. He published two famous books about his missions with MSF. His hobbies include all individual sports. He is a barefoot marathon runner, pilot and challenging himself for triathlon. He is married and has two children.
