Karen Hartley - Real estate transactions & Architecture

Founder, real estate consultancy firm Prague Properties

Karen did not start out her career in the Real Estate industry, she studied Music at the Harrogate College of Arts where she was training to be an Opera singer. She is now a specialist Residential and Hospitality consultant who has been active throughout Europe for nearly 20 years.

Arriving in Prague in the summer of 1991 on a 6 month work contract she has now made the Czech Republic her home and runs a boutique agency offering unique full service solutions to investors both old and new – from 1000 unit Property Developments, Hotel developments, Timeshare and Beach resort management to day to day property management, rentals and sales. In the last 2 years she has also been heavily involved in the operational side of the famous Prague Christmas and Easter markets in the Old Town square and Wenceslas square which were awarded the prize for Best Christmas Destination in the World by the readers of USA Today in 2015 and in 2016 one of the top 10 Christmas markets in the world by CNN. Her unique brand of tough love and home truths has enabled many a frustrated Real Estate owner to take their business out of the red and into the black.

For 8 years Karen was the European Sales and Marketing Director for one of the largest Commercial land development companies in Central Europe, Orco Property Group, and worked on large multifunctional projects not only in the Czech Republic but throughout Germany, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, and Russia.

Karen is a regular speaker on the European conference circuit in her capacity as a Residential expert and has spoken on Investment opportunities in Central Europe in panel discussions in Dubai, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

Along with her day to day consultancy activities, Karen is currently working on a new large-scale residential project in Prague 4, two new high-end residential buildings in Prague 5 and Prague 2 and a hotel renovation in Western Slovakia.
